If you are looking for something to do with your Christmas Tree in January, the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society is putting on their annual Tree Chip at two locations; the Newton Athletic Park and Guildford Town Centre.

Since 1988, The Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society have organized the Annual Tree Chip at Newton Athletic Park.  Each year, over forty fire fighters volunteer at the event to remove the trees from the citizen’s vehicles, and toss them into the chipper. Trees are accepted with a small cash donation and the donor will receive a brochure about charitable society and small token of our appreciation.  On average, nearly $5,000 is donated each year.

There was a time when burning Christmas Trees was the status quo, however, the City of Surrey led the way in being environmentally friendly establishing burning by-laws, hence the ‘Tree Chip’ name was born.  Since 1994, Surrey Fire Fighters have been chipping trees and collecting donations benefiting the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society for youth and family programs.
