For Immediate Release:
Surrey Fire Fighters’ Ignite a Dream Event a Huge Success
Surrey, BC – The second annual Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society, “Ignite a Dream” event took place on Saturday February 21, 2015 from 7 to 10pm at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre. The event was a huge success and was very well attended with approximately 350 guests, including Mayor Linda Hepner, Councillors Mary Martin, Mike Starchuk, and Dave Woods, and MLA Stephanie Cadieux. While supporting a great cause, guests were treated to a fine evening of wine and craft beer tasting and food sampling from many of Surrey’s finest restaurants.
This year, thanks to the enormous generosity of guests and event sponsors, Semiahmoo Shopping Centre, Swirl Wine Store, Coast Fresh Salmon and the Peace Arch News, the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society was able to raise over $25,000. Proceeds raised at this event will fund educational awards for Surrey’s most resilient youth. The focus of the “Ignite a Dream” program is on finding young people in Surrey who, despite enormous socio-economic obstacles, demonstrate leadership and succeed academically while working to make their school and community a better place. The hope behind the “Ignite a
Dream” awards is that the financial assistance will help the future leaders of Surrey on their road to success.Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association President, Mike McNamara stated, “we are very impressed and appreciative of the support we receive from the citizens of Surrey.”
“This event represents Surrey at its finest, where local businesses, community leaders, educators and residents come together to support a great cause” said McNamara.
