Surrey Fire Fighters CPR & First Aid Program
WHAT IS CPR?
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, or CPR, is an emergency method of maintaining breathing and circulation when a patients heart has stopped. It involves pressing on a patients chest, to circulate blood, and forcing air into his or her lungs to provide the body with oxygen.
WHO PROVIDES THE TRAINING?
All courses are taught by professional fire fighters of the Surrey Fire Department. All instructors are certified Red Cross Instructors. This is a community based program that teaches life savings skills to all ages. Since 1981 we have taught over 40 000 Surrey citizens, some of who have used their skills to save another person’s life. In less than 4 hours our students learn lifesaving techniques, accident prevention as well as heart attack recognition and prevention.
WHICH COURSE SHOULD I TAKE?
- CPR & FIRST AID – COURSE DESCRIPTIONS CPR A (Adult CPR) – 4 hours This course is designed for anyone with no previous CPR training. Learn the “signals” of a heart attack and “actions” you should take. Skills taught and practiced include one-rescuer cardiovascular and choking emergencies for people aged 8 and over, personal scene safety and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Red Cross certificate issued (3 year expiry).
- CPR C (Adult, Child and Infant CPR) – 6 hours This course is designed for first responders, workplace teams and lifeguards. Learn one and two-person CPR and choking skills for adults, children and infants including personal scene safety and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Red Cross Certificate issued (3 year expiry).
- CPR C Recertification – 4 hours Recertify your CPR C level certificate in this skills/testing-oriented course. Your most recent CPR C level certification must be within the last 3 years. Skills taught and practiced include CPR and choking for all ages, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Red Cross certificate issued (3 year expiry).
- HCP – Health Care Provider – 6 hours This course is designed for health care professionals. Learn one and two-person CPR and choking skills for adults, children and babies including personal scene safety, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and BVM (Bag-Valve Masks). Red Cross Certificate Issued (3 year expiry).
- Emergency First Aid & CPR A – 6 hours Learn basic first aid techniques and the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular and choking emergencies for people aged 8 and over (CPR A). Includes injury management, personal scene safety and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Red Cross Certificate Issued (3 year expiry).
- Emergency First Aid & CPR C – 8 hours Learn basic first aid techniques and the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular and choking emergencies for adults, children and infants (CPR C). Includes injury management, personal scene safety, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Red Cross certificate issued (3 year expiry).
