Draft Surrey budget has no new money for firefighters

Listen in on the Simi Sara Show about the Draft Surrey budget has no new money for firefighters

This morning on the Simi Sara show News Talk 980 CKNW President Mark McRae of the Surrey Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1271 spoke to the financial plan of #surreybc and how #publicsafety and #firefighters are being dismissed in the budget. With the massive growth of residential and commercial infrastructure in Surrey over the past decade, particularly the north, there’s a need for more fire fighters in order to serve the emergency call volume and demand. The delay in additional fire fighters for 2020 and beyond is unacceptable.

A public hearing is today, Dec 2nd @ 1pm city hall – City of Surrey where voices will be heard from all stakeholders and concerned residents.

The National Fire Protection Association standard for fire fighters is 1 FF per 1000 residents. Surrey Fire has 1 FF per 1500 residents. Local municipalities and national comparators are 1 / 800 to 1 / 1000.
