The Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society operates a Disaster Assistance Program to aid members of our community that have suffered a substantial personal loss due to a catastrophic episode.
The program combines resources from the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society, Red Cross, Food Bank, and the Surrey Fire Fighters and Surrey Hospice Community Thrift Store. Fire fighter Terry Hunt admits the program won’t replace everything that is lost as a result of the tragedy but it does give people a new start and it provides emotional support immediately after an incident when it is needed most. The program includes emergency housing, meal money for three days, free shopping at the Fire Fighters thrift store and emergency funds to help replace some of the essentials. The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association Executive insists the program is a success and refers to a number of examples when people that have been helped out return at a later date to thank the firefighters and to make a donation back to the Surrey Fire Fighters Charity. If you would like to support Surrey’s own disaster relief fund contact the Surrey Fire Fighters.
