The Surrey Fire Service wants to have an empowered work force that provides excellent service to all individuals we serve which is supported by our Fire Chiefs and Association. Some of the tools available to our crews for the citizens are:

Back Pack Program

This is a tool that can be used to answer questions, or help customers solve their problems. When someone has a question or an opportunity arises to give Fire and Life safety information, the Backpack maybe a perfect fit. None of this information is new. We have simply combined all of the materials and organized them in the Community resource binder in the backpack. The same information is available in fire apparatus laptop computers. Surrey Emergency Program

The Surrey Emergency Program is a citywide program that addresses the emergency management concerns of the city and communities.  The SEP is responsible for emergency planning, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery activities in the City of Surrey.  The SEP works to plan, coordinate and test emergency and disaster response services.  Administered by the Fire Department, it involves all city departments as well as the following volunteer organizations:

• General Volunteers
• Emergency Social Services
• Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program
• Amateur Radio
• Search and Rescue

Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program

This program takes the Emergency Preparedness into the area where it will be most effective – our City, communities, neighbourhoods and homes.  Facilitators have been trained to meet with citizen groups to help them to prepare for an emergency and to identify the skills and resources available to them in their neighbourhood if a disaster should occur.  This program is available at no charge to any community group.  Call 604-543-6795 for more information.

What to do following a motor vehicle accident:

1. Call 911 for Police, Fire and Ambulance.
2. Assist any injured people.
3. Obtain information from others involved in the accident and from witnesses.
4. Describe the vehicle crash site.
5. Location details.
6. Weather conditions.
7. Time.
8. Date.
9. Vehicle Year, Make, model, Plate #
10. Number of occupants
11. Names of Witness’s

RCMP

Surrey RCMP will only attend accidents in the following cases: serious injury or fatality, inoperable vehicles, impaired driving or other criminal action, failure to provide insurance or driver’s licence or if a driver is insistent that police attend.

You will only receive an accident report if the police attend the accident.

AFTER A FIRE

What to do following a fire can be very traumatic and confusing. The Surrey Fire Department has created an information booklet to assist the public with ideas and agencies that can help them to put their life and home back together if it has been damaged by fire. We can also provide “comfort kits” that contain toiletries for a family if they are displaced from their home. In conjunction with Terasen Gas, we distribute “trauma pups” to young children that have been affected by a traumatic incident.The prevention branch can assist any person affected by fire with information and resources for restoring their life back to normal.  The Fire Prevention office telephone number is 604-543-6760.
