No new money for Surrey firefighters despite increasing emergency calls”
This morning on the Stephen Quinn Show CBC Radio, Surrey Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1271 President Mark McRae spoke to the financial plan of #surreybc and how #publicsafety and #firefighters are being dismissed in the budget. With the massive growth of residential and commercial infrastructure in Surrey over the past decade, particularly the north, there’s a need for more fire fighters in order to serve the emergency call volume and demand. The delay in additional fire fighters for 2020 and beyond is unacceptable.
A public hearing is today, Dec 2nd @ 1pm City of Surrey, British Columbia where voices will be heard from all stakeholders and concerned residents.
The national standard for fire fighters 1 FF per 1000 residents. Surrey Fire has 1 FF per 1500 residents. Local municipalities and national comparators are 1 / 800 to 1 / 1000.
