Sad News From Your Surrey Fire Fighters

It is with deepest regret and sorrow we report the death of Fire Fighter Kevin Hegarty of the International Association of Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1271, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Brother Hegarty, 53, died tragically on March 1, 2015.
Kevin was an Acting Captain with the Surrey Fire Service and was assigned to Fire Hall 13 in South Surrey. He began his career in 1995 and had almost completed 20 years with the department when he died.
“Kevin was a very active and involved member of our family and he will be missed” said Surrey Fire Fighters Association President Mike McNamara.
During his career Kevin developed many friendships with his work colleagues in Surrey and throughout the province. He worked with the BC Burn Fund and assisted with the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society. He was an advocate for mental health and had a passion for helping people wherever he could.
McNamara added that “we cannot emphasize enough the significance of the efforts Kevin made to try and help all workers with the difficulties that come with the service we provide.”
A funeral service will be held for Kevin on Monday, March 30th, 2015 at 10:30am at the Peace Portal Alliance Church, 15128 27B Avenue, Surrey, BC (entrance off of 152 Street, south of King George Blvd). Muster for uniformed personnel will begin at 9:00am at, 27thA Avenue and 150th Street, Surrey, BC. A reception for uniformed personnel will be held following the service at The Barge Inn, Surrey, BC.
There is expected to be a large turnout of uniformed fire fighters from Surrey and many other fire departments across Canada and the United States as well as other emergency services including paramedics, police and border services. For more service details, click here.
