For Immediate Release:

Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society Surrey’s Most Resilient Youth

On May 20th, Surrey Fire Fighters will be surprising five exceptional youth at five different secondary schools in our city with an Ignite a Dream Educational Award. Earlier this year, the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society identified five of the city’s most resilient graduating students on the basis of academic achievement through of hard work and determination while overcoming adversity in their lives.

Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association President Mike McNamara, “With over 70,000 children and youth enrolled in the Surrey School District, our membership worked tirelessly with school administrators at every high school and learning centre to identify a very select group of individuals.”  The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society then created a selection committee to identify the top five recipients, a task that proved difficult given the calibre of applicants.

McNamara added, “This education-based initiative represents our charitable society’s commitment to proactively recognize and give back to the future leaders of our city.”

Funding for these educational awards were made possible through the highly successful Ignite a Dream event held at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre earlier this year. The event was a formal evening of wine tasting, culinary exhibitions and musical entertainment.

We invite media to attend at any of the locations listed below as we surprise each youth at their high school with their award.

  • 9:00am – Semiahmoo Secondary – 1785 148 St, Surrey, BC V4A 4M6
  • 10:00am – Enver Creek Secondary – 14505-84 Avenue Surrey, BC V3S 8X2

Sincerely,
